Books

For as long as I can remember I've dreamed of writing books! As a former elementary school teacher turned full-time mom, my dream became even more important.  My husband is a career firefighter and is often gone for long stretches of time. When our son turned one and a half he began to realize that his daddy left for long periods of time and then returned, but what one and half year old truly understands the concept of time or where his daddy went? He would cry and didn't understand that Daddy was coming back soon.  We talked to him about what Daddy does; that he drives fire trucks and helps people in need, and that Daddy loves us and will be back soon. After much repetition, he started to understand.

I realized there was a problem that needed a solution. Because of this, "My Parent's Job Children's Series" was born! The goal of My Parent's Job Children's Series is to showcase jobs and explain them on a level a child can understand. The books are meant to bridge the gap faster in a child's understanding of why a parent leaves for an extended period of time to go to work, (especially where professions keep parents away at night), and what they are doing during that duration.  It is expressed in a way where a child feels proud of their parent, and come to an understanding that it's something they must do, while loving them all the while. 

These books can also a resource for  families, schools, or anyone who may want to teach their children about a profession even though they may not live it.

Open an Adventure Author Mentoring:

Lisa continually crosses paths with people of all ages, from various backgrounds, and diverse fields, who all share one of their life goals- to write a children’s book! Lisa has always been willing to chat about the process and felt frustration that many people didn’t have a clear way to gain this information. Time and time again people would say the same thing “I don’t know where to start!”

That’s when she realized there has to be a better way!  Traditional publishing can be a long and grueling process and may result in a dead end. Lisa went straight to self-publishing, because if you have something to say, SHARE IT NOW! Through self-publishing and has gained a wealth of knowledge that she wants to share it with others, so they can live their dream on their own timeline.

Orton-Gillingham Tutoring Services:

Reading opens doors, but unfortunately doesn’t come easy for all learners.  Many times extra support tailored to the child is needed.  Lisa has her Master’s in Education and currently holds an active teaching certification. She recently completed 70 hours of Orton-Gillingham Training at the Associate II level and is currently working with a fellow to be further certified.

As a teacher, Lisa worked diligently with many students at various levels to implement reading programs that support all learners.  She is well aware that even in today’s classrooms due to class sizing, program restraints, and staffing, many students may not be getting everything they need.

Lisa’s goal is to give students and their parents the tools they need to be successful readers and unlock the skills that can change their trajectory and relationship with reading.  

Orton-Gillingham is a structured literacy approach that integrates multisensory opportunities through explicit phonics and reading instruction to reach a wide range of learners, especially those who may have various deficits.

Lisa will work with you to pick the package of tutoring and reading resources that is right for you. She can be a guide on the side cheering you on or right next to you holding your hand as you work through this phase of your child’s education. You get to pick what you and your child need.
